What is Stamping?
Stamping is a manufacturing process, usually using pressing or punching, in which a machine is used to mould or cut metal into a specific shape with high precision, efficiency and versatility, and is commonly used to produce a wide range of components used in various industries such as automotive, aerospace, electronics and consumer goods. It ensures that every part produced is identical and is ideal for mass production.
Sheet Metal Stamping Process
There are basically only three components to sheet metal stamping—the sheet metal, die, and press machine—but any single part can require multiple steps to arrive at its final form. The following guide explains common processes that might occur during metal stamping.
Blanking
This step uses a die to cut the entire sheet into the desired preliminary shape or size.
Punching
Punching is the process of punching holes or openings in a metal sheet. The desired hole shape is punched out by applying pressure between the punch head and the die of the punch press.
Bending
Bending is the process of bending a metal sheet into a certain angle or shape.
Drawing
The drawing process is the process of pulling a flat blank into a hollow part or a complex curved part.
Ironing
Ironing is a stamping process that reduces the thickness of a metal sheet in a specific area. Through the ironing process, the thickness of a material can be reduced in a specific part while maintaining or increasing the strength of other parts.
Hemming
Hemming is a stamping process that folds or curls the edge of a metal sheet. Hemming is usually used to connect two metal parts or make the edge smoother and safer.
Forming
The forming process is to apply further deformation force to the metal sheet through the die to achieve the final shape and size requirements.
Flanging
Flanging is the process of folding or curling the edge of the workpiece inward or outward.
Trimming
The trimming process is to remove excess edge material or burrs during the stamping process to ensure that the part has a smooth appearance and neat edges.
Compound Operations
In the manufacturing process of some complex parts, it may be necessary to combine the above processes together, which is called a compound process.
Coining
Coining is a process step to make fine adjustments to the already formed workpiece to ensure that it reaches the exact size and shape.
The applications of Sheet Metal Stamping
Due to its versatility and cost-effectiveness, stamping is widely used in many industries, especially in those fields that have high requirements for part precision, strength, and production efficiency.
Applications of stamping technology include:
1. Automotive industry: including parts such as car doors, hoods, roofs, chassis, wheels and brackets.
2. Electronics and electrical appliances: various metal housings, heat sinks, connectors and small electronic parts.
3. Home appliance manufacturing: metal housings and internal parts of washing machines, refrigerators, microwave ovens, etc.
4. Aerospace: various structural parts on aircraft, rockets and satellites.
5. Building hardware: various metal doors and windows, handrails, curtain walls, fasteners, connectors, etc.
6. Daily consumer goods: many daily necessities, such as kitchen utensils, cooking utensils, knives, lamps, etc.
7. Medical equipment: used to produce various precision metal parts, such as surgical tools, medical device housings, brackets, etc.
8. Transportation: Stamping technology can produce various metal parts required for various means of transportation

FAQ
1.How to deal with surface treatment problems?
Sample color identification and dispensing ensure batch color consistency, strengthen manual inspection, avoid the defective products.
2.How to get a quote?
Please send your 3d drawing(STP, IGS, STL, OBJ, X-T...) to us, and tell us the material, surface treatment and quantity, then we will quote within 2 hours.
3.How surface finishing works?
Almost all surface finishing processes improve either the aesthetic appearance of the product or its mechanical or chemical properties. Each surface finishing process achieves this in a slightly different way.
4.Can you help me to design my product or improve my design?
Yes, we have a professional design team to help our customer to create their product or improve their design. We need sufficient communication before design to understand your intention.
